Project details
A Russian baking tool brand wanted to develop a rectangular baking mat for kneading dough, baking, and holding food. The samples provided by the previous supplier had poor surface smoothness, making items prone to shifting during use, and cracking at the corners, severely impacting the user experience.
Z.S.R produced a DFM report within 24 hours, optimizing the corner structure, injection runner, and reinforcing ribs. Mold opening and prototyping were completed, and safety testing passed on the first attempt.
Based on the DFM results, the project moved into mold making and sample production, followed by quality verification of the first batch before mass production.

Engineering DFM Assessment
0.5 mm Rounded Corner Root
The original design featured sharp corners, which easily accumulated stress. Engineers added a 0.5 mm rounded corner inside the outer radius while maintaining the product’s overall outline.
Baking mats need to be repeatedly folded and may be used in high and low temperature cycling environments. Sharp corners easily accumulate stress, leading to whitening and cracking after repeated folding and use. By adding rounded corners to the inner edges without changing the mat’s appearance, these concentrated stresses are distributed across the curved surface, improving the mat’s lifespan and tear resistance.
Multi-Point Symmetrical Injection + Edge Venting Grooves
Simple center injection results in a longer flow distance for the material, easily leading to flow marks and trapped air. Z.S.R employs multi-point symmetrical injection, shortening the material flow distance. Micro-venting grooves are created along the parting line on the outer edge of the product to expel trapped air from the planar cavity.
Baking mats are large, flat, thin silicone products. Single-point injection results in uneven cooling at the material’s leading edge, easily causing flow marks. Symmetrical multi-point injection balances pressure and shortens the flow distance. Edge venting channels allow smooth air expulsion, ensuring uniform mat thickness and a flawless appearance.
Uniform Edge Thickness + Circular Reinforcing Rib
The edge thickness is uniformly 2.0 mm. A low-level circular reinforcing rib is added around the outer edge of the product to improve the rigidity of the finished product and reduce the risk of deformation at high temperatures.
When a large silicone sheet is heated, different areas shrink differently, causing warping in the finished product. The outer ring reinforcement rib, combined with equal-thickness edges, ensures the mat remains flat after high-temperature baking, preventing food from sliding.
Mold Making, Sample Production & Quality Verification
Mold Processing
Z.S.R Group is equipped with 10 advanced CNC machining centers and 4 EDM machines, specializing in single-cavity compression molding of silicone baking mats.
Silicone Molding
Production is supported by 48 solid molding machines, 12 liquid molding machines, and 13 injection molding silicone machines, enabling the rapid molding of 30,000 silicone baking mats within 20 days. Over 10 printing and spraying production lines also allow for printing logos or patterns on the silicone baking mats.
Secondary Vulcanization
After molding, the silicone baking mats undergo secondary vulcanization at 200°C for 2 hours.
The secondary curing process removes small-molecule volatiles, reduces product odor, and ensures the mats meet food contact safety requirements.
